You are here: Classes » 1963 Class of '63 The following was taken from the 1963 Squaw Butte Saga ... In the fall of 1959. 166 freshmen entered the halls of EHS. They looked up to the mighty seniors and wished that they too could be like them. That year they elected Rod Lords, president; Clark Chapman, vice president; Pam Pursley, secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. Tolmie and Mr. Koga, class advisors. The class began the climb to the top by co-sponsoring a movie, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", and selling concessions. The second year of their high school career began with the election of new officers: Clark Chapman, president; Joe Gratton, vice president; Sherry Chapin, secretary-treasurer; Sheila Scrivner, representative; and Mrs. Jensen and Mr. Christensen, advisors. They undertook several projects to build up their treasury. These included a car wash, selling candy, and selling concessions. The junior year was a big success. Under the leadership of Ron Figart, president; Jerry Gibson, vice president; Nancy Woods, secretary-treasurer; Mary Jane Johanntoberns, representative; and Mrs. Tolmie and Mr. Mullins, advisors, the class really got on the ball and raised funds. Junior projects included a movie, "Operation Petticoat". selling candy and concessions, an after-game dance, and a car wash. The Junior-Senior Prom, "Moon River", with Jane Wilson and John Wynn as co-chairmen, was one of the prettiest dances ever seen at EHS. Couple enjoyed dancing in the spring atmosphere of flowers, river boats, swings, and bridges, all topped with a soft yellow ceiling. It was a wonderful climax for a busy year year. This year they reached the once-longed-for goal of seniors. In this last year at EHS, the leaders were chosen to be Joe Gratton, president; Mark Hansen, vice president; Jane Wilson, secretary-treasurer; Carolyn Danielson and Jerry Gibson, representatives; Edward Johnston, seageant-at-arms; Mrs. Broich and Mr. Santos, advisors. They kept themselves busy by sponsoring a movie, selling concessions at games, and throwing a class picnic and dance. The seniors proved themselves strong by winning the coveted Homecoming trophy for having won the most events. They have also won many of the yelling contests at the Pep Assemblies and got to keep the jug of spirits. The class has been represented all through high school by many outstanding athletes, scholars, and musicians. The years have gone fast but the memories will last forever– Class colors: Red and White Class flower: Red Rose Class Motto: Succeed we can; we will; we must! |
