Class of '69

The Class of '69 got off to a great start when 187 fun-loving Freshmen entered classes together at Parkview Junior High School in 1965. Three more memorable years lay in store for these young men and women. That year Tom Carlsen, president; Stephanie Deen, secretary-treasurer; Odell England, social chairman; and Larry Goins, sergeant-at-arms were elected to lead us through our first big year.

In 1966, having completed our last year at Parkview Junior High School, we moved on to invade the halls of E.H.S. Heading our class for our Sophomore year were Rod Huber, president; Cathy Garatea, vice-president; Glenn Clark, secretary-treasurer; and Jan Charters and Randy Charters, class representatives. For our advisors that year, we chose Miss Sewell and Mr. Robinson.

As Juniors, in 1967 we began our year by placing first with our Homecoming float carrying the message that “Vikings Are All Wet.” We chose Kim Hartnett, president; Steve Crank, vice-president; Linda Fry, secretary-treasurer; and Kathy VanLeuven and Tom Carlsen, class representatives. Our class advisors were Miss Johnson and Mr. Pratt. For fun and money-making projects, we sponsored the Junior class play, the Junior-Senior Prom, and a major candy sale. “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay” was selected as our Junior class play and turned out to be a smashing hit. The money we made from the play, along with the money made in the past, went to sponsor the annual Junior-Senior Prom which was titled “Strangers in Paradise.” This dance was the grand finale for a wonderful year.

We reached the peak of our high school career in 1968, our final year in E.H.S., as seniors. All the student body officers, Jerry Elliott, president; Doug Dodson, vice-president; Linda Fry, secretary-treasurer; and Margaret Fry, advertising manager, were elected from the ranks of seniors to lead our school through 1968-69. Leading the Senior class were president, Tom Carlsen; vice-president, Lawrence Whitsell; secretary-treasurer, Karen Nichols, and class representatives, Connie Cooper and Gary Blaylock. Mr. Mason and Mr. Strong were chosen as our class advisors. We are proud to say that our Senior class was responsible for the opening of a youth center in Emmett, for which Mr. Mason deserves our appreciation for his help. Graduation was set for May 25 with the girls wearing white and the boys wearing blue to start a new tradition for E.H.S.

As this graduation date draws near, we the Seniors of E. H. S., would like to first thank our advisors, Mr. Mason and Mr. Strong, for their guidance during this most important time of our lives. We would also like to acknowledge our appreciation to the rest of the faculty and administration of Emmett High School for all their help during the last few years.
