You are here: Classes » 1988 Class of '88 The class of 1988 has always had a tradition of firsts and lasts. They were the last class to graduate from Junior High Schools Parkview and Central Mesa, due to the condemnation of those schools. As freshmen, they were among the first and last to have to deal with the agony of split shifting. High School classes began at 6:20 am and finished at 12:17 pm. They were the first class whose graduation requirements were affected by the c-average rule. And, they were the last class to have Mr. Horning as a Jr. High principal, and the first class to have him as a high school principal . . . resulting in seven consecutive years of having Mr. Horning in charge. Now, they are the last Senior class in the old high school and will be the first to graduate from the domes. When the class of 1988 began their high school careers as lowly freshmen, they were assigned Mr. Dean and Mrs. Obermeyer as class advisors. They elected Jeff Graviet as President, Meri Ann Jensen as Vice President, Staci Woolley as Secretary, Marty Rood as Treasurer and Vivianne Gilbert and Brian Himes for Class Representatives. Cheerleaders were Nicole Kraipowich, Christy Quick, Angela Weeks and Cheri Mallory. The class distinguished themselves early by creating a Homecoming float that tied for first place with the Seniors. This was the best showing by a freshman class in ten years, and started a standard of high quality floats for the class. In their second year of high school, the class of 88 had to learn to cope with overcrowded classrooms and hallways. As a result of double shifting, the junior high students shared the building with the high school. Leading the class into seven periods and through hordes of little people were Staci Woolley, president; Marty Rood, Vice President; Anne Carlsen, Secretary; Kristal Stroud, Treasurer; and Meri Ann Jensen and Jeff Graviet as Class Representatives. Cheerleaders were Maida Kipper, Angela Weeks, and Karen Brown. During Homecoming, their float won first place again, but unfortunately, the girls lost to the ’87 Senior girls in the powder puff football game. The Junior-Senior Prom the class hosted was held in Boise for the first time in over ten years. The theme was “On The Edge of a Dream” and it was held in the Crystal Ballroom. As Seniors (yay!) the class of 1988 continued their tradition of excellence. After an eighteen game losing streak, the Huskies defeated Bishop Kelly at Homecoming. The Seniors took second in the float competition, and took first in the Homecoming games. After working long hours on turning the dream of a new school into reality, the Seniors had the satisfaction of being told they would graduate from the domes. Elected as the first Senior officers at the new school were President Marty Rood, Vice President Allen Holzheimer, Secretary Anne Carlsen, Treasurer Staci Woolley, and Class Representatives Amy Witzel and Becky Pook. Varsity Cheerleaders were Shannon Franking and Karen Brown. Student Body Officers were President Jeffrey Lawrence, Vice President Jeff Graviet, Secretary of Organizations Meri Ann Jensen, Secretary Jennifer Panko, and Treasurer Nicole Kraipowich.
