Greg Walker

Wow its been twenty years!

I am a 1988 graduate from Emmett High School (You already knew that). Anyways after graduation I joined the Navy and went to San Diego, California with Norman Long for boot camp.  It was very nice going through boot camp with someone you know. It made it easier to cuddle (Sorry, Norman I know you did not want any one to know but, its okay to be scared sometimes). After graduating from from bootcamp I was stationed in Great Lakes, Ill. I attended a mechanical engineering school, where I was trained to be a sweet steam turbine mechanic. I graduated from the engineering school and was stationed onboard the USS Iowa BB-61, which is a battle ship in Norfolk,Va. I was only onboard the ship for three months before my first short cruise.

In April 19, 1989 we were shooting the 16inch guns off of the shores of Peurto Rico when one of the guns exploded and killed several very young sailors.  After getting the ship back into shape (Shipshape) we sailed to the war in the Gulf (Desert Storm). After spending three years onboard the Iowa we decommisioned the ship and I was transfered to the USS John F. Kennedy, which is an aircraft carrier. I was only onboard the JFK for a short time before my stent in the Navy was coming to an end (Thank God). After I left the Navy I came back to Emmett, where I began working for Boise Cascade in the plywood plant. I worked there for about 6.5 years.

As I lived in Emmett and worked at Boise Cascade I became a reserve with the Gem County Sheriff's Department. It did not take me long after getting shot at the range before I realized I needed to go to work with a more professional law enforcement agency (Imagine if you will that I was playing my redneck banjo).

In January 1999 I went to work for the Oregon State Police, which is one of the most elite law enforcement agencies in the nation. I attented a 21 week academy in Astoria, Oregon.  After completing the academy I was trained in Ontario, Oregon for about 3 months and then was placed in Burns, Oregon. For those of you who don't know where that is look at a map, it is west of Ontario towards Bend, Oregon.  I spent 1.5 years there before transfering to Ontario, Oregon, where I have been ever since. I am an emergency vehicle operation instructor and I have been doing that for about seven years.  I am a Nationally Certified Drug Recognition Expert and I have been doing that for about 4.5 years (So don't come all doped up. Besides if you are still doing that you need to get a life). I have been trained to be a Field Training Officer and I am currently training a new recruit for the field.  My wife, Julie is and Ontario Police Department Dispatcher and she has been working there for 10 years.  It makes for a great conversation after work.

I have four wonderful children, Dana 16, Christopher 8, Lucia 1, and Victoria, who is only 4 months old. Yeah, I made my wife a believer of birth control. The story there is this.  In 2002 I met my wife I am married to now and we agreed that the two kids I already had was enough.  In 2004 I as diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, which was devistating to us (Mostly me). The doctor told me that after I completed my eight months of Chemotherapy I would no longer be able to have kids, which was okay for us.  Anyways to make a long story short and you already know the outcome. We were going on with our lives like nothing ever happened and my wife is Catholic and for those of you who don't know Catholics do not believe in birth control. So anyway, Bang she gets pregnant and we have Lucia (Surprise).  A short time later and just a few months of being unpregnant, Julie and I found out she was going to give birth to Victoria (Yeah).

There is alot more I could tell you, but hey I need to have something to talk about when I see you all. I am looking forward to the reunion.
