Norman Long

Senior Chief Petty Officer Norman E. Long joined the U.S. Navy in June 1988.  After completing Basic Training in San Diego, California, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Sacramento (AOE-1) home ported in Bremerton, Washington.   During his first tour, he completed two Western Pacific/Indian Ocean deployments and served in Desert Shield & Desert Storm.

Senior Chief Long transferred to the Naval Hospital in Bremerton in June 1991, where he was assigned to work in the hospitals operating room.  In 1992, he transferred to Submarine Base Bangor in Silverdale, Washington.  After completing his stateside assignments, Senior Chief Long was assigned to Naval Dental Center, Okinawa, Japan. In December 1996, Senior Chief Long completed Military Police/Master-At-Arms training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. After completion of training, Senior Chief Long was assigned to the U.S.S. Nimitz (CVN-68) in Bremerton, Washington.  In August 1997 he deployed for Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and DESERT STRIKE.

In July 1999, Senior Chief Long was assigned to Misawa Air Force Base in Northern Japan. After completing a joint military tour, Senior Chief Long, in May 2002 reported aboard the U.S.S. Mustin (DDG-89) for duty as the Chief Master-At-Arms.  He also served as the small arms instructor for the ship’s crew.  After completing his sea tour, in December 2004, he was assigned to Commander Fleet Activities, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Operation Chief for the Base Security Department.  While assigned to Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa, Senior Chief Long deployed to the Horn of Africa for 7 months in Support of the War on Terrorism.

Senior Chief Norman Long has completed 20 years of active military Service. He is a 2004 graduate of University of Maryland, University College where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice. In November 2006, He graduated from University of Phoenix with a Master’s Degree in Management.  His military awards and decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards) and numerous other unit and campaign awards.

When not living overseas, Norman still calls Idaho home.  He is married and has two children.
